Evil bugs are attacking Neopian Protection Zone 6b, and we need your help!
Get inside your specially-designed Wocky Tank and blast those bugs!!!

Swarm II - The Bugs Strike Back is the game for people who hate bugs.  Bugs are swarming in from the top of the screen. The player's job is to kill as many bugs as possible from inside the saftey of a tank. The tank is controlled with the left and right arrow keys. Use the space bar to fire at the bugs while dodging the flames coming towards you. The walls serve as a shield to protect you.

The bar at the right hand side of the screen shows important information.

Score: Current score
Wave: Current level out of the total amount of levels.
Weapons: There are three different special weapons available.
  • Lives: Amount of lives left. Only three lives are given for the game.

  • AP Slug - Large missiles that move much faster than the normal missiles.
  • Laser - When aimed correctly a laser can destroy an entire column of bugs. When a laser is acquired the next shot will be the laser shot. There is only one shot available with a laser.
  • Shield – This is a defensive weapon that protects the tank with a blue surrounding force field. Once it is hit with a flame the shield goes away.

End Game: Ends the current game

The bugs move back and forth shooting small flames towards the tank. A green bug moves across the top of the screen and occasionally shoots large flames. Protect the tank from these flames by moving behind a wall. When a section of wall is hit by a flame it wears down. If the wall section is hit enough, the wall will erode away. Large flames wear down the walls faster than the small flames. If all of the sections wear down, dodge the flames to the best of your ability while collecting power ups to help. At the beginning of each level the protecting walls are rebuilt.

Small oval shaped power ups sometimes fall down the screen when a bug is destroyed. In order to activate the power up the tank must catch it. It’s possible to have more than one power up working at the same time. Some of the power ups will be beneficial, but others will make the game more difficult. It’s helpful to know which power ups do each specific thing.

Beneficial Power Ups

Surrounds the tank with a protecting force field until it is hit.
Restores the worn down walls for your protection.
Increases the speed of the tank.

Gives you five large missiles to be used during the five next shots.

Harmful Power Ups

EFFECT
Decreases the speed of the tank.
Increases the tank’s size making it easier for the flames to hit it.

There are 10 different waves or levels of the game. To move on to the next level all of the red bugs must be destroyed. As the level increases, the amount of bugs to destroy also increases.
  • Wave 1 – 4 Rows, 4 Columns; 16 Total Bugs
  • Wave 2 – 5 Rows, 4 Columns; 20 Total Bugs
  • Wave 3 – 5 Rows, 5 Columns; 25 Total Bugs
  • Wave 4 – 5 Rows, 6 Columns; 30 Total Bugs
  • Wave 5 – 5 Rows, 6 Columns; 30 Total Bugs
  • Wave 6 – 6 Rows, 7 Columns; 42 Total Bugs
  • Wave 7 – 6 Rows, 7 Columns; 42 Total Bugs
  • Wave 8 – 6 Rows, 8 Columns; 48 Total Bugs
  • Wave 9 – 7 Rows, 8 Columns; 56 Total Bugs
  • Wave 10 – 7 Rows, 9 Columns; 63 Total Bugs

As levels increase the bugs move faster, shoot flames more frequently, and eventually begin moving from front to back and side to side. When the bugs move from front to back it is important to kill the bugs closest to the tank first. If the bugs get too close you will lose a life.

There are two commonly used strategies for this game. One strategy is to destroy the entire column of bugs on the side and then allow the bugs more room to move. Continue taking out all of the bugs along the side before moving on to the next column. Basically move from side to side while destroying entire columns at a time. This will usually work best in higher levels.

Another strategy is to concentrate on destroying the bugs in the middle first. This strategy normally works best overall because once all of the middle bugs are destroyed there is much more room to move without as many flames. After the bugs in the center are destroyed concentrate on destroying the green bug for some extra points, and then worry about the normal red bugs left on the sides.

Tips to Win:
  • Aim for the large green bug that moves along the top. This bug is worth 60 points and will always release a power up, while the normal red bugs are worth only three to six points and may not release a power up.
  • It takes awhile for a normal missile to reach the target, so fire in advance. Practice to improve knowing exactly when to fire.
  • Don’t try to catch a power up if flames are in the way. Lives are more important than the power ups.
